In Memorium Adam West

Today a legend passed away and his name was Adam West.
He was 88 and passed on from complications with his fight with Lieukemia.

But he will always be remembered and immortalized as Batman. The TV show that ran in ABC from `66-`68. For me watching Batman when I was a kid was fun!
It was so campy, but Adam had a way to portray Batman where he wasn't too corny as well as Burt Ward as Robin.
In fact he was serious when he needed to be. Commissioner Gordon and Chief O`Hara were so clueless but Batman would always coolly and calmly solved what ever 'complicated' riddle or joke or device that was brought to them like it was nothing! There was also the lovely Yvonne Craig as Batgirl from late Season 2-Season 3

But it was the villains too that were over the top but also can be remembered for how they were portrayed and there were many: 

Like Cesar Romero as the Joker who had his famous mustache colored white.
My favorite villain Frank Gorshin as The Riddler, who seemed to enjoy himself in every episode he was in not to mention that cool laugh he had!
Burgess Meredith as the Penguin who portrayed him excellently.
Lets also not forget Catwoman portrayed sexilly by Julie Newmar (Season 1-2), Eartha Kitt "Purrr" (Season 3) and Lee Merriwether (`66 movie).

There were other villains that were equally good:
Like Roddy McDowell as the Bookworm
Michael Renie (Klatu from 1951s The Day the Earth Stood Still) as the Sandman.
Carolyn Jones Morticia from The Addams Family, as Marcia the Queen of Diamonds
Van Johnson as The Minstrel
Art Karney, Ed Norton from the Honeymooners as The Archer 
Vincent Price as Egghead
Victor Buno as King Tut
The Nameless Actor as False Face
Eli Wallach as Mr.Freeze (I forgot the actor who played him in the first season)

This was great TV fun with the hilarious fights with POW! BANG! ZAP! and who can forget the Batmobile, a customized `56 Lincoln Phantom.
Batman was the show that cannot and will not be redone now.

The film portrayals show him as dark and in my opinion Michael Keaton portrayed the modern Batman the best. But Adam West will be remembered as a class of his own. Actually there was a black and white Batman serial series during the `40s, But Adams version is the one most fans like me remember the most and love.

Nowadays it`s nothing but dumb 'reality' shows that pale to how it was back in the day when you actually had fun watching something!

Sure he gotten typecast but Adam had a resurgence as voice actor. He played Batman in the last season of Super Friends, he played himself on The Simpsons, The Grey Ghost in Batman TAS and Batman Beyond, Catman in the Fairly Odd Parents (Thank you for reminding me!) but he will be best known as Mayor West in Family Guy! He recently did a DC animated movie: Batman Return of the Caped Crusaders were he played Batman Burt Ward played Robin and Julie Newmar played Catwoman.
